The seminar is organised in honor of Professor Jean-Paul Abraham due to his crucial contribution to the studies and research on European monetary integration and financial issues. During his academic life, Professor Abraham always aimed at reconciling both the academic viewpoint and that of the practitioners of the banking and financial institutions sectors. The seminar constitutes an attempt to provide valuable insights into the debate concerning the current challenges that the Eurozone is facing. Instrumental to this aim are the political and economic reflections made by those personalities that have been in prominent positions at the time when measures had been discussed and implemented to correct the initial deficiencies of the institutional design of the Eurozone.

To this aim, the seminar invites such personalities to put forward their options a about the feasibility of the Eurozone, the reforms already made and still needed, the lessons that could be drawn from the management of the macroeconomic policies, and the way in which the global crisis had influenced the financial strategies of banks, and other financial agents. Further, the seminar aspire to assess to which extent an equilibrium can be found between, on the one side, the need for fiscal consolidation and the convenience of debt restructuring –namely on the private sector– and, the implementation of growth-oriented fiscal stimulus, on the other.

It is addressed to last-year students on economics, international business, and students with similar academic qualifications. Likewise, the seminar might interest professionals of financial institutions and research centers geared towards issues of fiscal federalism, banking union, and European monetary integration.
