The Consortium created in 1997 between the Barcelona Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo Center and the Ernest Lluch Center is comprised of the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, the Diputación de Barcelona (Barcelona County Council), the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (Barcelona’s Center for Contemporary Culture).
The Barcelona UIMP Research Center was formally established in 1989 by Ernest Lluch, President of the University between 1989 and 1995. The creation of this Center is rooted on the first activities developed by the UIMP in Catalonia in 1980 under the presidency of Raúl Modoro who organized academic courses at the Maricel Palace in Sitges.
In 1984, President Santiago Roldán transferred the courses to Barcelona. The presidency of Ernest Lluch stimulated the consolidation of the UIMP academic activity through the encouragement of an enhanced integration and presence in the Catalonian socio-cultural and academic arenas.
In 2001, the Center adopted the name of CUIMPB-Centre Ernest Lluch as a tribute to the regrettably deceased professor.
This Center fulfills its key mission of spreading culture and science while encouraging exchanges of domestic and international interest by developing diverse academic activities.
The Center is located at the Barcelona Centre de Cultura Contemporània (Calle Montalegre, 5). Most of the cultural and academic activities take place at this site.
