UNESCO Biosphere Reserves: their role in Biodiversity
Conservation and Sustainable Development

The course is designed to provide an understanding of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, which are more than 500 in number worldwide and serve as a locus for promoting the combination of biodiversity conservation AND sustainable development (very highly relevant to the world’s developing countries). The course consists of lectures, discussions, individual student research and short oral presentations, and a term paper on student-selected subtopics.

Course is in English* but students may write their term papers in English, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese.
